Lucknow | Under the firm directives of DCP Central Ashish Srivastava, the Alambagh Police has intensified its crackdown on illegal narcotics trade, specifically targeting cannabis peddlers operating in the region. One such decisive action was taken on Saturday, adding to a growing list of recent successful operations by the police.
Station Officer Subhash Chandra, in collaboration with officers from the Mawaiya Police Outpost, has been conducting relentless field patrols to identify and apprehend those involved in the sale of illegal narcotic substances. Acting on a tip-off, Sub-Inspector Shiv Prakash Singh, along with Sub-Inspector Abhishek Dwivedi and Constable Vikas Raj, nabbed an alleged drug peddler identified as Sanjay Soni.
Soni was arrested from a suspected hotspot with 1,120 grams of illegal cannabis (ganja) in his possession. The police team efficiently carried out the operation after monitoring the area for several days. The contraband has been seized, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act).
Sources within the Alambagh police station confirmed that Sanjay Soni was allegedly involved in local supply networks and had been under surveillance. His arrest is being seen as a significant blow to small-scale peddlers in the Mawaiya and Alambagh regions.
DCP Ashish Srivastava praised the swift and coordinated efforts of the Alambagh team, emphasizing the department’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and abuse. He added that strict surveillance and field intelligence are being employed to root out narcotics from public spaces, particularly near educational institutions and transport hubs.
The arrest has drawn appreciation from residents who have long expressed concern about rising drug-related activities in certain pockets of Alambagh. Regular patrolling and visible police presence are also being cited as deterrents that are now proving effective.
With the latest bust, Alambagh Police reiterates its commitment to maintaining public safety and eradicating the menace of drugs from city neighborhoods. Further investigations are underway to trace the supplier network linked to the arrested accused.
